| Acorn Recruitment is looking for a software engineer to work within a small team, developing and supporting the electronic control systems for our client's state of the art vending equipment based in Bristol. The main job function will be to develop & support the real time embedded software programmes used to control the operation of hot drinks dispensing machines. Software development is carried out in C using PC cross compilers and in circuit emulation, followed by rigorous application testing. The target applications use 16 bit microcontrollers from the Hitachi H8 family. Development of firmware inevitably requires the production of bench top test rigs and fixtures. Unlike IT oriented software, embedded firmware uses the electronics it controls, to interact with the equipment it resides in, to produce a tangible result. In this case a hot drink. A willingness to extend the boundaries of the role to embrace the wider aspects of the projects they are involved with is essential. A secondary job function is to provide technical support and assistance to the production line technicians to resolve problems beyond their capability. For this reason preference will be given to applicants with experience of electronic design or development. Familiarity with the following is desirable: C,MDB,EVA DTS,DEX UCS,REAL TIME SOFTWARE, ELECTRONIC DESIGN CONCEPTS.
