Overview
A world leader in the development, manufacture and distribution of a wide range of medical devices. The company is highly regarded in financial circles as a classic example of the true British success story.
A new vacancy now exists for a Research Manager reporting to the Technical Director. The post holder will be responsible for Research Strategy and the management of all areas of research within the Company.
Responsibilities
Generate/implement Research Strategy.
Manage all areas of research within the group
Manage IP relating to NPI.
Manage research personnel.
Keep up to date with current state-of-the art in orthopaedics via reading.
Develop/maintain University & general research links.
Increase the group profile at major meetings/symposiums/conferences.
Manage research specific to the groups development projects.
Manage University/industrial project collaborations to agreed costs/timescales.
Manage external research projects i.e. FEA etc.
Oversee biomechanical/anatomical research.
Key Responsibilities
Attend Product Focus/Strategy Group meetings.
Review relevant scientific journals/literature.
Run research projects to budgets/timescales.
IP searches relating to new products/process methods at early stage development phase.
File/assist new patent applications.
Manage research engineers setting tasks & timescales.
Manage personnel issues, including training, personal development, holidays, absenteeism, disciplinary, remuneration and recruitment.
Skills and Experience
PhD or Higher Degree in Mechanical/Bio-engineering/Material sciences (or equivalent)
Substantial experience in orthopaedics industry in Research & preferably experience in Product Development/NPI.
Track record in writing/preparations/submissions of Research papers/articles to journals/conferences
Track record in securing research grant funding.
Experience of turning Research projects into NPI.
Strong project management skills.
Excellent presentation skills.
