Up to 3 new Primary teachers are needed at this welcoming and well-established international school in warm and sunny Dubai. The school is very welcoming to NQTs and those with less than 2 years of experience, and it has teachers from many nationalities teaching small class sizes. This is a great job for teachers who want to experience their first job abroad as the school is full of lively young teachers who are abroad for the first time as well.
Teachers looking for a solid grounding in international teaching in a local setting where english is not the first language will benefit hugely from considering the potential that this local fee paying school has to offer. This is one of the few schools in Dubai that will consider teachers with less than two years of experience which is a great opportunity for those wanting to move overseas but do not have the background to be accepted by most places. And of course Dubai is an exciting and vibrant place in which to live and work, so this really ticks all of the boxes on a social and professional level.
The school is 96% local accommodating about 1700 students from KG to Grade 12 within a green and spacious campus of enviable location boasting the facilities one would expect from a good school. The curriculum is American and is more text book and exam focused rather than student centred but there is always room to flex your creative talents in the classroom. Dividing education on a gender basis due to local laws there will be some restrictions as to who can apply; some applications are only open to female candidates, like positions below Grade 4 or female high school secondary subject positions. The school is split into 4 campuses - KG, elementary, male middle and high and female middle and high. Some subjects are taught individually as low as Grade 5 where the separation begins such as English and Maths.
The school need good english speaking teachers for all primary/elementary levels and middle school/high school secondary subjects; some experience particuarly within the realms of ESL would be advantageous. Cultural sensitivity is a must and differentiation on an academic and English Language basis goes without saying. Expectations need to be adjusted accordingly as you confront a different way of doing things amongst your students, managers and parents.
The salary is tax free and varies by experience, but will be approximately £16,000 tax free with free housing, bonus and flights. Most teachers are able to save at least £4000 a year because there are no overhead costs, and the cost of living is lower than the UK. Contracts are 2 years with flights yearly.
The school location close to the beach offers social opportunities after work you would probably never find back home. The area is quiet and affluent but both school and the apartments are not too far away from town for an evening and weekend social life. Dubai is an amazing place, the city of dreams. It has developed at an incredibly rapid pace in a very short space of time. World record breaking feats of structural engineering, massive foreign business investment, dazzling residential and business districts and stunning tourist attractions are just some of the unique features that are being established in the city of the future.
